CAIRO, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) — Leading gold companies and designers from home and abroad gathered for the first ever Egyptian Gold and Jewelery Fair here in the capital Cairo to support local industries and attract foreign investment.
The three-day Nebu gold and jewelry exhibition, which runs until Monday and is named after the Egyptian symbol for gold, has attracted more than 30 major Egyptian gold manufacturing and trading companies , as well as master goldsmiths and designers.
“The exhibition helps us to develop relationships with existing and potential customers. It also adds value to the influence of marketing activities,” George Abdallah, a local marketing manager, told Xinhua.
Sponsored by the Egyptian government, the exhibition has also become a unique trade and investment platform for the industry in the Middle East and Africa, according to Abdallah.
“Here we can reach customers who weren’t reached before through regular promotions. We can also increase sales and collect leads,” he noted.
“This is the first fair for gold makers where I can meet a large number of one-stop gold and jewelry makers” and talk to them directly, Amr Mamdouh, a visitor looking for information, told Xinhua. business opportunities.

Egypt’s Trade and Industry Minister Nevin Gamea said Egypt’s gold and jewelry industry is enjoying competitiveness as the country becomes a major production and export hub in the world. Arab region and Africa.
Gold production from Egypt’s main Sukari mines has reached an annual average of 15.8 million tonnes, which is expected to increase with the launch of the Golden Triangle project in the eastern desert, the minister said at the ceremony opening.
Gamea said the government intends to build the first national gold refinery to purify gold mined from Egypt and other countries in the Middle East and Africa, as an alternative to refineries in Switzerland and the Canada.
The Egyptian government has also tried to add more value to the local gold industry by building a new city for gold manufacturing and trading in the new administrative capital, she said.
The new “City of Gold” will include 400 technical workshops for gold production, another 150 educational workshops and a vocational school, she added. ■
